Dear Mr. Jones:

On behalf of the entire City of Benton Harbor, we congratulate you on your well-deserved retirement. We are hoping this new phase in life provides you with much needed rest and an opportunity to enjoy your hobbies, family, faith and dream s .  You will be missed by your students, co-workers, administrators and civic organizations who have called upon you for many, many years. So will the countless families of students who you have mentored throughout the years. We have watched, with such pride, as you showcased the talents of so many young people while preparing them to embark on life’s journey.  You were not only a high school band director, but you were at the top of your class. Your counsel and wisdom shaped the lives of thousands of Benton Harbor youth as they passed through those band room doors each day. You provided so many youngsters, as well as countless adults, an opportunity to explore their talents, learn to read and appreciate music on so many levels, develop the discipline to perform as a group, and understand the strength of unity in their performances. You brought a spirit of professionalism, commitment and compassion for your students that exemplify the highest standard of education and professional excellence.

You have contributed so much to our community as an educator, mentor, role model, great neighbor, friend, Christian and community leader. We all join together to express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for your many years of dedication.

As you begin your retirement, please remember those of us who will always remember you, your encouragement and powerful leadership. You will forever be a part of the Benton Harbor community fabric.
